Name: Anita Blaisdell Resided: Black Mountain/NC Obituary: Anita Fay (Cone) Blaisdell, 72, of Black Mountain died November 22, 2009, at her home, from the effects of cancer. She was born October 4, 1937 to Floyd Nathan Cone and Edith Louise (St. John) Cone in Independence, Buchanan County, Iowa.
A resident of Black Mountain since 1991, she was a graduate of the Univ. of Dubuque, BA (Christian Ed. & Music), 1960, and McCormick Theological Seminary, MA (Christian Ed.), 1964. She was a devoted homemaker and secretary for Presbyterian Reformed Ministries Int’l., 1980-2001.
She was a member of Montreat Presbyterian Church (EPC), a member of a women’s circle there and at Black Mountain Presbyterian Church, where she was also a hand bell ringer. She was secretary of SE Branch, Blaisdell Family National Association.
She was a kind-hearted, capable and faithful wife, mother and friend, whose resurrection hope was in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Her smile radiated God’s goodness and glory. She was a bird-watcher, gardener and friend to all who met her. She had the ability to stop whatever she was doing to listen and be helpful.
Besides her husband, Rev. R. Carter Blaisdell, she is survived by her children and their spouses: Valerie Ruth Presdee (Garry), Dubai, UAE; David Scott Blaisdell (Weiwei), Rockville, MD; Sarah Jane Dittmer (Scott), Owasso, OK; and John Milton Blaisdell (Courtney), Little Rock, AR; and nine grandchildren: Ethan William Presdee, Andrew Carter Presdee, Matthew Zhang Blaisdell, Christopher Zhang Blaisdell, Madeleine Zhang Blaisdell, Aaron Frederick Dittmer, Steven Russell Dittmer, Rainey Elizabeth Blaisdell and Brandon Carter Blaisdell.
She is also survived by her brother, Rev. Dean Randall Cone, Louisiana, MO: Aunt Isadel Cone, Grundy Center, IA; cousins Glendora Andre, Minneapolis, MN, and Dale Brown, Grundy Center, IA, numerous other family and friends. Since June 8 she was under the good and compassionate care of Hospice at her home.
She was predeceased by her parents and a brother, Sgt. John Milton Cone, who was killed in action in Vietnam in 1969.
A memorial service will be conducted Friday, November 27, at 11:00 a.m. by Rev. Richard White, Gaither Chapel, Montreat College, Montreat, NC, with a reception to follow. Burial will be at the North Carolina Veterans Cemetery, Black Mountain. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to Montreat Presbyterian Church (EPC), PO Box 279, Montreat, NC 28757. Designate for Anita Blaisdell Memorial Fund.
