Obituary: Patricia Ann Spellman of 46 Red Fox Ln, Brevard, NC passed away on March 2, 2010 at her home in Brevard, NC.
Born and raised on Long Island, New York, last resided in the town of Cutchogue, NY prior to relocating to Brevard, NC upon her husband’s retirement in 2003.
She was the daughter of Edna Mosebach and James Myles Reid. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother Richard Reid, and a sister Vera Grace. Pat is also survived by her sister, Irene Morrow, and a step-brother, John Young and his wife Valerie of Rochester, NY.
Surviving is her family including her loving husband of 48 years, Richard Spellman, a son Michael Spellman of Mattituck, NY, and daughters Susan Carroll and Husband Timothy of Oak Ridge, TN, and Jill Charnews and husband Steven of Roy, UT, as well as seven grandchildren, John Spellman, Justin, Shane and Kaitlyn Carroll, and Kyler and Kortney Charnews, and her brother in law Ronald and his wife Joyce of Hampton Bays, NY. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews as well as special friend Patricia Hein and many other close friends too numerous to mention.
Her strong Christian faith supported her in her 24 plus years battle with breast cancer, as a result of which she founded the Breast Cancer support group Live Love Laugh Again located at Mather Hospital in Port Jefferson, New York. The hospital awarded her a Certificate of Appreciation for this endeavor. Her career in banking started with the then Dime Savings Bank of New York (now Washington Mutual) at which she was a Branch Manager in Shoreham New York then to the then North Fork Savings Bank (now Capital One) in which she managed branches in Jamesport, Cutchogue, Southampton and Southold and rose to the position of Assistant Vice president. After retiring from banking, she then went on to work with the Life Care Community, Peconic Landing, located in East Marion, NY.
She was a member of the Rotary Club (Southold, NY), the Lions Club (Jamesport, NY), and President of the Aquebogue, Jamesport Business Association as well as a member of several Chamber of Commerce organization’s located in Jamesport, Southold, Greenport and Southampton all located on LI IN New York.
After retiring to Brevard, NC Pat was a member of the Sacred Heart Ladies Guild, and a volunteer at Transylvania County Regional Hospital’s wellness group, her hobbies included Gardening, taking pictures of her flowers and making cards to send to her friends on special occasions, she also loved to paint watercolors.
There will be a memorial service at Sacred Heart Church located in Brevard on March 6, 2010 at 11:00am at which time the family will receive friends in the Gathering Hall of the church immediately after the ceremony.
