Obituary: Robert Glenn Mercer "Bob", 81, of Candler passed away on July 10, 2010. A native of Pontiac Michigan he was the son of the late Alva and Olive Mercer. He is also preceded in death by his brothers Richard, Jerry, and his sister Marian Whaley. Surviving is his wife of 53 years, Phyllis, his son Tim Mercer of Sanford, and her daughters Colleen Cutshall of Mars Hill, Sandy Bernard of Globe, Becky Balcer of Fletcher, grandsons Michael Thomas, Hayden Killion, and Alex Mercer, granddaughters Heather Spiegel, Caroline Mercer, Olivia Mercer, and Hannah Cutshall, brothers Donald and Roger of Michigan, and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 7 pm on Thursday, July 13, 2010 at Middle Fork Baptist Church, 41 Crooked Creek Rd, Mars Hill, NC with Pastor Stanley Peek officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to CarePartners Hospice, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813. Bob was a quiet and kind man and will be missed by all who loved him.
